| The film depicts love without an emphasis on sex. Who would have ever imagined cowboys in love, but “ Brokeback Mountain ,” did land a big win. Although, the movie did not live up to all the hype it was still groundbreaking. Philip Seymour Hoffman channeled the bizarre author Truman Capote , best actor was well deserved for his work in “ Capote ,” who was a well known homosexual continued the victory of art changing the minds and hearts of people. None of the previous victories was as significant to me as Three 6 Mafia’s win for best song. The “ Hustle & Flow , “ anthem was well performed in a clean version, but stayed true to the actual message of the unedited version. However, did you notice that the audience was not shown once during the rap group’s entire performance until the very end. “I just couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t stand still, a excited Jordan “Juicy J” Houston , said backstage. “I had to run somewhere. I started to run somewhere. People thought the police was probably chasing me somewhere.” I felt the exact same way; all I could do was jump up and down and scream to the top of my voice. Not much moves me, but this win made William G. McCray, III become totally unglued. As a result of these big wins will the world view Racism, Homosexuality, and Hip Hop differently or will things remain the same. | |||

P. Henson , sang the hook in the movie and whaled it out
on Oscar Night in a hot white cocktail Dress: “It’s
hard out here for a pimp, when you tryin’ to get the money
for the rent, with the Cadillac and gas money spent, you got a whole
lot of witches jumpin’ ship.” Well, I got the
original version and trust me “witches” replaced another
word that start with a “b’ and was also the one used
in the movie. Despite the toning down of the lyrics, Three
6 Mafia was bleeped once during their performance due
to ABC censor thinking the f-word was heard. Later a network
spokesperson said they could not be sure what was said. Jordan
Houston ( Juicy J ), Cedric Coleman
( Crunchy Black ), and Paul Beauregard
( DJ Paul ) received another beep during
their acceptance speech, which remained true to Hip Hop form.
Three 6 Mafia’s win has raised a great deal
of eyebrows and received some critical criticism that leaves the
accomplishment with a damned if you do and damned if you don’t
feel. It is true that Three 6 Mafia was
the first African American rap group to win the honor, they are
not the first rapper to get an Oscar— Eminem
was the groundbreaker for this win for “ Lose
Yourself ,” from “ 8 Mile
.” However it may have gone unnoticed
due to his not showing up to accept the award and his song was performed
by Sir Elton John on the big night. |

 Now
that you have had sometime to celebrate the victory of Three
6 Mafia do not get too happy that you cannot see the bigger
picture. Are you really surprised that the Academy celebrated
a song that praises misogynist behavior and reduces African Americans
to Pimps and Hoes. My original view of a proud example of
how far Hip Hop has saturated the mainstream has to be sobered by
the reality of the Academy’s willingness to reward stereotypical
depictions of African Americans in the arts. The
Washington Post spoke to a number of people that
felt both ways and I want to hear from my readers. Send your

form of expression. Members of the group thought their win
may have been a dream to wake up and realize it was a reality. The
reality is that this win or big dream could actual be another African
American nightmare. Some say it was a great performance, but
the good bishop asked me, “Son how can you be excited about
young niggas performing a modern day minstrel show, they traded
in the black face for platinum teeth?” The struggle
continues Hip Hop speaks to the present day oppression of disenfranchised
African Americans while the ones that have been successful at stepping
and fetching on the corporate plantation are rewarded just like
the rappers. |

The Emancipation of Mimi ,” is a
prophesy fulfilled. Mariah Carey got two
more feathers in her cap at the 20th Annual Soul Train Music Awards,
held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. “ We
Belong Together ,” picked up best album and
best single. “This has been the biggest and most successful
year of my life,” said Carey , who made a
comeback to the music scene after a breakdown and successful career
during the 1990s. Carey was unlike the
much talked about R. Kelly , who did not walk away
with any wins for  his
three nominations. However, his attendance was not all in
vain. R. Kelly was the first person to
receive the Stevie Wonder Lifetime Achievement Award .
The honor was a bronze statue of legendary singer presented
to Robert Kelly by Stevie himself.
Although, there is a dark cloud over the head of Kelly
, he is yet a talented entertainer. But can you imagine
that Stevie may have given the first award named
in his honor to a sex offender. Kanye West
won the award for best R&B-Soul or Rap music video for “
Gold Digger ,” and John
Legend beat R. Kelly in the category
for best male single. Chris Brown who is
Sixteen-years-old reminded me that just last year he was at home
trying to handle his business in school and basketball practice,
earned best new rap artist for his single “ Run
It .” The Quincy Jones Award
for Outstanding Career Achievement Male and Female went
to the all too common Academy Award Winner Jamie Foxx
and Destiny’s Child . Foxx’s
behavior consistently is a little to common. The
Oscar winner was so drunk or high the night of the NBA Players Association
Ball during All Star Weekend in Houston, Texas, I wondered how he
was going to make it to the game the following night. According
to a member of Jamie’s entourage for the
weekend it was close to one hundred people in Jamie’s
hotel suite and a lot more then drinks was flowing. Now
back to the Soul Train Awards, the John Legend
said he was truly humbled to have accepted the Soul Train’s
Sammy Davis, Jr. Award for Entertainer of the Year . |

Dealers and Killers Strike Again…Bobby Brown
drove to the police station to turn himself in on a 14-year-old
warrant in Webster, Massachusetts. First he attended his daughter
LaPrincia’s cheerleading tournament. Bobby
has been acting up for a while now. The 37-year-old
brown was charged in 1992 with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
and an uninsured motor vehicle trailer according to Police Chief
Timothy Bent. After he was held in police custody for about
an hour, Bobby Brown reportedly paid $40 bail
and was released. Seems to me after he went through all the
trouble to do the right thing for the first time in his life he
would have paid the total fine. I guess he did not get enough
allowance from his wife Whitney --she is not doing
well according the recent photos. Poor Bobby
and his Billy Holiday like wife. As you
may recall Bobby in 2004 was sentenced to 90 days
in prison for missing three months of child support payments totaling
$63,500, but he was released after he paid $15,000 of the back payments. |

Rob, born Robert Ross is in police custody
after he was arrested on February 24 due to a fugitive warrant in
New Jersey. Rob was supposed to surrender
to authorities on January 24 to serve time for a burglary charge
from 2004, but he never showed up. A federal task force tracked
him down at an undisclosed location last week. It was reported
that Rob was originally arrested at New York’s
on the Ave Hotel in November 2004 after hotel security cameras captured
him leaving a female guest’s room with her purse. He
was booked for burglary and criminal possession of stolen property.
According to Rob’s spokesperson he
entered a guilty plea on November 15 to criminal possession of stolen
property, which is a felony, and was sentenced to six years in prison.
He remained free on bail, but failed to appear as scheduled
on January 24, which promoted the issue of a beach warrant for his
arrest. Well, Black Rob lived up too the
Bad Boy name. Seems he is not making much money these days
since P. Diddy’s label has not produced
a hit artist since only God knows when. Master P
, born Percy Miller got off with a $750
fine, forty hours of community service, and probation on his charge
of possession of an unregistered firearm. The “ Dancing
With the Stars ,” loser got off by the skin
of his teeth this time. Well, former Atlanta Mayor
Bill Campbell went home a humbled man after the jury convicted
him on three counts of income tax evasion. A much thinner
Campbell , minus the glasses, hair, and money that
he had when he became Mayor his first term might finally go on a
forced vacation. Bill pride always comes before a great fall.

Raising Hell… It is always time to add some new spice
to the column and with the two following stories you will soon love
this new section. Supermodel Naomi Campbell
is suing a cosmetic surgeon know as “The King of Botox”
for using her as a celebrity endorser magazine ads without permission.
Naomi , 35-years-old ran across her picture
in ads promoting Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh’s Botox services in
Hello! Magazine , reported by London’s
Daily Mail newspaper with text that says
Naomi owes her flawless complexion to Dr. Sebagh.
The runway diva had lawyers in the High Court on Monday to
file the case against Sebagh, whose pioneering use of Botox in the
early 1990s lead to his title “King of Botox.”
Campbell’s lawyers issued an application
for a “pre-action disclosure” in the Qu een’s
Bench division of the Royal Courts of Justice, in Central London,
which means the bourden of proof is on Dr. Sebagh to show evidence
that Usher’s ex-girlfriend got some touch
ups from the “King of Botox.” It seems that MJB , is a royal B*tch on tour. Mary J. Blige demands that fresh new toilet seats be installed in her dressing rooms while on tour. A long way from the projects in New York, inside sources say she wanted new toilet seats installed backstage at all 35 venues she is to perform at during the tour. One of Mary’s representatives confirmed the new toilet seat demand is true. “She doesn’t change all the toilets in the whole venue. She just wants it changed in her dressing room.” Blige , I am told checks into hotels as “ Mrs. Jefferson ,” also request 10 bottles of water, which “absolutely, positively must be Fiji,” two humidifiers and a love seat in each of her dressing rooms. How will Mary know if the toilet seat is new or not, what kind of test does she do to find out? I guess that is not much to request when the title “ Queen of Hip Hop ” has been bestowed on you. Mathis hosted a brunch at his Beverly Hills home to introduce
his Stand Up For Youth Crusade 2006. Among the celebrity guest
dining on the spread fit for a king. The menu consisted of
salmon, sun-dried chicken, scrambled eggs, asparagus, fruit, and
home-style potatoes buffet was laid out to perfection. Mathis
event was total class act with Kellita Smith ,

Watts , Omarosa Manigault , Roger
E. Mosley , “ Magnum P.I .,”
Eve , Won-G , rapper, all attended
the judge’s event and pledged their support for this great
effort. On the other side of the country, Sir Elton
John was spotted with his husband shopping at a small
boutique call Y-S across the street from Lenox Mall in Atlanta,
Georgia. It was not much in the place that he could squeeze
into. However, his better half seems to have no problem speeding
the singer’s big money. This rumor was brought to my attention last week, Common was performing at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I heard Common was free-styling in a hot concert when all hell broke loose. According to sources Common was sporting a tee shirt that stated “ I Love Black People ,” but a guy that was white and bald was in the audience and not feeling Common’s vibe. The white guy continuously heckled Common during his performance and to add insult to injury he flipped Common the bird. I was told that Common walked over to the white guy and slapped the taste out of his mouth right in the middle of his show and the crowd went wild. Common reminded him he was from the South Side of Chicago. Security removed the man and he was doused with beer on his way out. People Carmello Anthony and his wife, Lala are still together and expecting a baby. Not sure where that came from that they were headed for divorce court. |

It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp ,”
is officially an Academy Award Winning Song. Art liberated
the oppressed Oscar Night. Movies that captivated our emotions
and forced people to examine their beliefs walked away with the
Golden Statue. No one movie swept the Oscars this year as
so many did in times past. “ Crash ,”
is a movie that every American should see received the highest
honor as movie of the year. The well deserved film allows
you to examine the lives of very different individuals and how
each of them is affected by racism. “ Brokeback
Mountain ,” is a movie that tells the story
of true love, which just so happens to be two cowboys. 
Rapper/Actress
Eve has taken after LisaRaye McCoy ,
and has a boyfriend that is royalty. Eve
is dating the son of a dictator by the name of Teodorin Nguema
Obiang, the 35-year-old son of Equatorial Guinea dictator Teodoro
Obiang Nguema. The word is he has got some serious money
that does not even compare to the cash some of the rappers in
America boast about. However, the daddy has been accused
of torture and falsely imprisonment—Amnesty International
even put him in their top 10. It is said that it took Eve
two years to give in to his request.
