Not
sure we have seen his best work yet. Darrin Henson
will show off his ability to rhyme in a new CD with
a former member of the group Escape. Dancing and rapping
has always been a part of Darrin . Growing
up in the hood as he called, a rough area in the Bronx, Hip Hop
was always a part of his existence. Rapping and dancing
were abilities he prided himself in showing off in school talent
shows. “I was doing a lot of Break Dancing, so I was
never teased in school for being a dancer,” Darrin
shared. “In fact my dancing was the reason
that a lot of the guys looked up to me in the hood that I am from.”
The cast of “ Soulfood ”
had become a family and they all were greatly disappointed with
the show ending. Almost an extended family that attempts
to support each other and stay in contact as often as they can
Darrin informed me. The versatile actor
and dancer wants to continue to do work that will allow him the
opportunity to share all his talents. “I have done
some groundbreaking things as a result of my opportunity of being
on television,” Darrin said proudly. “What
other actor you know has a dancing DVD!” |

 Comedian
Mark Curry “ Hangin’ with
Mr. Cooper ” underwent surgery last week after
a freak accident at his home. According to sources close to
the Oakland native, Curry was burned severely
after accidentally dropping an aerosol can near a water heater,
which caused a bomb-like explosion. The blast burned the majority
of his body and a small portion of his face. At the time of
my deadline I could only find out that he was still being treated
in a burn center in Oakland, California, where he had surgery. Despite
the severity of the accident, Curry is in good
spirits and still making jokes. On his voicemail he sang a
medley of songs including “ Fire ,”
“ Hot In Herre ,” “
Disco Inferno ,” and the party chant
“ The Roof is on Fire
,” he told well wishers to not send flowers
because they are not allowed at the burn center, but he did request
that well wishers pray for him and consider sending a cashmere sweater
once he is released. |

Juanita Bynum , pastor of
the Global Destiny International Center in Atlanta, Georgia, has
signed a deal with BET to host a new talk show. Details have
not been worked out on the format or what can be expected. However,
their has been no official announcement made yet, but those that
attended her The Threshing Floor conference said that Juanita
said her show would be like “ Oprah Winfrey’s
show, but with the Holy Ghost. As you well know
she had a show on TBN a Christian channel and she boasted of having
close to 11 million viewers. Michael Lewellen, Vice President
of Corporate Communications for BET, made it clear to me that a
show was in development that would be motivational and inspirational.
He told me to be clear not to speculate on the show’s
format and that the details of a contract nor the possible guest
could not be discussed. However, he did admit the station
is excited to be in talks with the female pastor that is known to
pack in arenas all over the nation. According
to Mary Tucker , mother of actor/comedian Chris
Tucker , Juanita was awesome. |

| A staffer of Bynum’s told me that it is her desire to cross over and to be appealing to all people and not just the church community. The new talk show will give her that ability and to further her efforts in reaching and becoming the spiritual advisor of more stars. Mariah Carey is a daughter of Juanita Bynum’s ministry and more like her will soon follow according to one of the assistants of Juanita . Bishop T.D. Jakes is jumping on the inspirational bandwagon and may have passed Juanita with the announcement of his 60-second inspirational messages to more than 50 premier Radio Network affiliates under a new announced deal with the media conglomerate. “A Power Moment with T.D. Jakes ,” will air twice daily between 6:00a.m. and 7:00p.m., in which he will give advice on health, wealth, spirituality, and other subjects. | |||

Raising Hell … Star Jones Reynolds
drama continues. Oprah Winfrey was a guest
on the “ The View ” for the
first time in the ten years the talk show has been on the air. The
five women could not stand next to the “Queen of Talk.”
Oprah took the show in an extremely scripted
interview that Barbra Walters attempted to control,
which really disappointed me in her attempt to take credit for Oprah’s
success. Each woman attempted to ask Oprah
a significant question, even the privileged dumb blonde
Elizabeth , who lives in a utopia and has an extremely
conservative point of view. None of those chicks could do
a good job next to Oprah . Rosie
O’Donnell will take Meredith Vieira’s
place when she makes her transition to “ Today
.” Rosie lives in truth
at no matter the cost; openly gay and honest about her weight is
not exactly what Star would like to be next to
on a daily basis. Star has not come out
on how she lost enough weight to make two or three other people
nor does she discuss her husband, Al , who is rumored
to have a bi-sexual past, prohibits Star from living
in truth. Barbara Walters invited Star
to leave without fulfilling her contract to make it easy
for Rosie to sit at the wood table. Star’s
extremely aggressive personality may have caused her to
wear out her welcome. Everyone you poll has a problem with
Star , if they like her or not they are ready for
her to get up out of that seat. The wedding ordeal was too
much for the world and may prove to have caused her detriment. The
interesting twist is that Gayle King , Oprah’s
best friend, is said to in the running to replace Star
, whose light is getting dim. Face it, “ The
View ” will have to replace Star Jones
Reynolds with an African American woman and Gayle
King would be idea; she lives in New York, has blossomed
as a journalist, and is the brains behind O Magazine.

Dealers and Killers Strike Again …Born
Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr.,T.I . had to bury his
good friend and personal assistant, Philant Johnson, due to a senseless
act of violence. Hip Hop is not that culprit of this type
of behavior, but ignorance is contributing to the detriment of young
African American people. However, when the mentality does
not change of the rapper, who is from the projects, that is now
a multi-millionaire unfortunate events such as these can and will
occur--It is just the goodness of the Lord T.I.
was not shot or killed as well. The violence has to stop and
the artist are going to have to take responsibility for their lyrics
and the life they portray in the videos and performances to make
it clear that they speak of a life they have come from and no longer
live. How many people have to be killed before we get the
wake up call or we are to dumb to listen and take heed to the signs.
We can no longer allow ourselves to live in a false sense
of reality and think if we play with guns someone will not be killed.
Change the lyrics if necessary so the wrong perception will
not be given to people that are to ignorant to understand the difference
of entertainment and reality. T.I. spoke
at his friend’s funeral of all the fond memories of his childhood
friend whose life was cut off suddenly. T.I.
and all gangster rappers must rethink the venomous message in their
rhymes. Life and death is in the power of the tongue, so be
wise in your choice of words.  Snoop
Dogg , who is out of the pound, was back in London to meet
with the police about his involvement in a brawl last month at Heathrow
Airport. The rapper and five other members of his entourage
were arrested and detained for violent disorder and starting a brawl
after someone in Snoop’s crew was denied
access to British Airways’ first-class lounge. The incident
spilled into a duty free shop, where seven policemen suffered injuries,
said a spokesman for the airline. Snoop
and the group of thugs he was traveling with were headed to Johannesburg,
South Africa; where he was due to perform at several concerts. After
spending a night in jail, police released the six without charging
them with any offenses. However, they were told to return
to London for further investigation. Due to the incident British
Airways has banned Snoop from traveling on their
aircraft and it is some possibility he may be banned from London. |

may have some competition with Ne-Yo .
The R&B singer is quickly gaining star status and even
will make his acting debut in the movie “ Steppin
,” along side Megan Good ,
Darrin Henson , and Jermaine Williams
(“ Fat Albert ”), but Principal
Carolyn Witte of the Mercy High School in suburban Detroit did not
care who the singer was and refused to allow the new R&B crooner
to perform a free concert at her school. Witte said his lyrics
were too sexually explicit for her students and did not live up
to the principals taught at the Catholic girl’s school. In
more music news, Alicia Keys promises the follow
to her 2003 album “ The Diary of Alicia Keys ,”
will have some amazing collaborations with the likes of John
Mayer , Linda Perry , and John
Legend . Keys is currently promoting
her film debut “ Smokin’Aces ,”
and filming another film called “ The Nanny Diaries
,” where she will star opposite Scarlett

According to my “ Street Committee
”…In recent travels I caught up with Jonathan
Slocumb in the airport. During our chat while waiting
on our connecting flights he shared with me that he would host the
Essence Music Festival for 3rd consecutive year
July 1-3 at the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. The comedian
known for being well dressed will sport Sean John fashions the entire
weekend and he just might ink a deal with P.Diddy
to become a spokesperson for the line. Jay-Z and Beyonce’ attended the Nets game and it is said the music power couple got into an argument courtside. Now some of “ Street Committee ” told me Beyonce’ got up and left the arena upset while Jay-Z stayed and enjoyed the game. The word is that Shawn Carter might have his nose open for another up and coming R&B Diva. Foxy Brown rumored to have totally recovered and has her hearing back. Foxy has recovered right in time to hear everything the New York Judge will have to say when she has to appear to answer charges for a fight she had in a Manhattan nail salon. |

The
former star of the Showtime series “ Soulfood
,” is serving it up again in a movie due to
hit theaters this fall. Darrin Henson
feels that he landed the perfect role of his career thus far.
Co-starring Megan Good , “ Steppin
,” will be the first film since Spike
Lee’s , “ School Daze ,”
that will chronicle the Historical Black College experience. The
pledging process is exposed as a group of friends work to become
a part of their ideal fraternity and participate in a National
Stepshow Competition. Darrin gets to
act and show off his dancing skills in the film. With a
passion for dancing Darrin shows off some of
his serious moves in the movie. On roll since the year 2000
after winning an MTV Music Award for a video he choreographed
it has been non stop for him. The 33-year-old actor just
completed a movie call the “ Last Stand ,”
that should be in theaters soon. Darrin
has a role as and attorney that is fighting a big case and falls
in love with the opposing council, Vivica A. Fox .
“It
was my first time working with Vivica , she is
really cool,” Darrin said smiling. The
dancer got married two years ago and has a loving and supportive
family.
Stop
the violence! Lil’ Wayne tour stopped
in Kansas where during his performance an eager rapper want-to-be
threw his demo CD on stage. The CD hit Lil’
Wayne in the back of the head and all hell broke loose.
Wayne cursed him out over the mic and
the guy got his ass whipped by fans that were around him. Somehow
the guy survived and stayed for the remainder of the show. Speaking
of violence what in the hell is wrong with this sick individual
called DJ Star . I am
still getting the details on the firing of the Power 105 morning
show host. The Buckwild Morning Show
got out of hand and landed Star behind bars.
Seems the DJ Star has a rival at another
station and he threatened to do physical harm to the man’s
wife and urinate on his daughter while on the air. Well
his mouth caused him to be ass out of a $5 million dollar contract.
