Essence Festival in Houston was just not the same.  The show must go on, but the event seriously lacked something special that only can happen in New Orleans.  However, the musical line-up lived up to the festival's reputation.  A number of sessions and panel discussion were held to empower African Americans and to have open dialogue about some of the self inflicted ills in our community.  One to the weekend's greatest disasters was the reunion of Bobby Brown and New Edition .  For the first time I can ever recall an audience booing Bobby .  He seemed to have an episode or a complete nervous breakdown right on the stage. The crowd began to heckle Bobby and demanded for him to get off the stage.

New Edition was a class act and moved through their excellent choreography while Bobby ran around on the stage like a wild man and performing raunchy dance moves.  " Mr. Telephone Man ," brought the crowd to their feet and Bobby left the stage. The audience was equally excited about the old classic and to see Bobby leave-- Ralph Tresvant , Ricky Bell , Michael Bivins , Ronnie DeVoe , and Johnny Gill -who replaced Bobby --continued their show.  Just when we thought he was gone Bobby came back with a solo performance of " Don't Be Cruel ," which the audience did not seem to give a damn about because they were just that--cruel.  It was actually sad to see him completely humiliate himself before thousands, closing his set with " My Prerogative ," Bobby had stripped out of his shirt and told bedroom stories of his life with his wife, Whitney Houston .  The bottom line is Bobby Brown acted a fool and was obviously high.
In recent news Hip Hop artist, Ice Cube and 50 Cent have come out publicly about their frustrations with the " Queen Of Talk ," Oprah Winfrey and her lack of support of artist that have misogynist lyrics laced in their opus.   Jill Scott unleashed her point-of-view and did not back down.  In the manner of a strong African Queen, Scott expressed her frustration over the portrayal of black women in popular music and videos during a panel Monday during the Essence Music Festival's empowerment seminar, held as part of the magazine's Take Back the Music Campaign.  "It is dirty, inappropriate, inadequate, unhealthy, and polluted," Scott told the audience.  "We can demand more."  Actor Shemar Moore , Common , and former video whore, Karrien "Superhead" Steffans , who inked the tell-all " Confessions of a Video Vixen ," were also part of the panel that discussed the negative impact such images have on young black females.   Jill admonished her audience who shared her opinion to stop buying the music and encourage like-minded individuals to do the same.   "This is about choosing what we will allow in our lives," Jill added.  "We can force things.  We can change things.  Challenge the music industry with your purchasing power."   Setffans cathartically expressed that due to a difficult childhood and low self-esteem caused her to degrade herself in videos for virtually all the big names in Hip Hop.  African Americans are the only race of people on the planet who's men publicly devalue their women.
Who would have ever thought that Brandy Norwood would be in the running to replace Star Jones ?  " The View ," is dying a slow death and the dismissal of Star has obviously left the shows producers grasping at straws.  According to Star , Barbara Walters has known since November of last year that her co-host contract would not be renewed and without a doubt they knew since April.  So why the producers did not know who would fill the former New York Prosecutors seat at the table?   Brandy a 27-year-old singer/actress, currently a host on NBC's " America's Got Talent ," is auditioning for Star's old seat.  The tryout will possibly be permanent, but based on her lack of professional value add, Brandy is not a good fit.  Additionally, the show claimed to have a problem with Star for not admitting to having had surgery to lose weight must not know that Brandy lied about being married and some other personal matters in her life.   Star Jones-Reynolds must be replaced by an African American intelligent professional business woman.   Linda Johnson-Rice , of Ebony Magazine would be an excellent choice for " The View ."
Kimberly Jones is still Queen Bee.  Released in time to celebrate the 4th of July with her family, Lil' Kim -a convicted felon-served 10 months of the 366 day sentence she received for lying to a federal grand jury and in the subsequent trial that stemmed from a gun battle in 2001 that erupted outside New York's Hot 97 radio station.   Lil' Kim left prison in sunglasses and a true to form all-white outfit showing off surgery enhanced breast.  With a balloon and a bouquet of white roses in hand, she waved to dozens of cheering fans before getting into a silver Rolls-Royce.  The car pulled over into a nearby parking lot where she greeted the media and a crowd of fans.   Kim was released early for good behavior; however she is not totally out of the woods yet.  She met with her parole office in Newark, N.J. and then returned home where she will remain under house arrest for 30 days at her home in Alpine, N.J., and be under supervised release for three years.
What is going on at Vibe Magazine ?  It has been reported that the magazine showed Mimi Valdes , Editor-in-Chief, Shani Saxon, executive editor, Eric Parker, music editor, Jamie Katz and Lakeba Hollar, deputy editors, the door.  A former employee at the magazine reported on Bitter Vibes blog last week that heads would be rolling.  Representatives for Vibe have come out in force to deny the rumors.  The truth is that Vibe has been acquired by another company that may clean house, but nothing is certain at his time.   Radar Magazine's new owner Yusef Jackson , the son of Civil Rights Activist Jesse Jackson , through his Integrity Multimedia Co. LLC, the Chicago based businessman made a multimillion dollar investment in the twice folded publication that will be spread over a five year period.   Yusef at one time led a group that tried to acquire the Chicago Sun Times , but was unsuccessful.   Jackson said he has been interested in the media business for some time.
Drug Dealers and Killers Strike Again ...All the rumors were true Atlanta-based producer, Dallas Austin pleaded guilty to cocaine possession in the United Arab Emirates, but claims he was unaware that his actions violated laws of the country.  Seems Dallas was unaware that in most countries the possession of cocaine is illegal.  "I'm pleading guilty but by mistake," Austin was quoted as saying during a short hearing in Dubai.  "I had no knowledge and no intention of violating the laws of the U.A.E."   Dallas was arrested May 19 at Dubai's airport on his way to Naomi Campbell's three-day birthday party.  He was charged with cocaine possession and had been in custody at a police station without bail since his arrest.  After searching his travel bag, the official found 1.26 grams of cocaine.    Seems that Dallas was randomly picked for a special search, which is not uncommon since 9/11.   Dallas was actually sentenced to four years in prison for cocaine possession, then later the judge decided to issue him a pardon and deport him back to the United States.  The producer that has worked with TLC , Madonna , Michael Jackson , and Usher was facing a possible death sentence was forced onto a plane back to the United States.  Austin, 33-year-old Grammy winner's camp lied when they issued a statement that he was in London and had lost his passport.  No way could Dallas hide on this one.  The reality of his life involving drugs is obviously greater than the movie " ATL ," which was loosely based on his life is closer to home than what is depicted in the film.   Dallas on drugs is a great disappointment.
Well. DMX is out of jail again.  The out of control rapper, born Earl Simmons , had to spend a night in jail and post $2,500 bond to be a free man.  A judge issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court for a hearing on a plethora of traffic violations.  His attorney told the judge he was sick, however the 35-year-old Yonkers native was in Arizona where he performed live via satellite for the BET Awards the previous night.   DMX became extremely disrespectful to the guards when he was informed a bus would pick him up at 8 a.m. for a court appearance.  Obviously Earl forgot he was in jail due to his cursing and complaining he wanted to sleep late.  Against his wishes he had to make the early morning court appearance where he was granted bond.   DMX was processed out by 2 p.m.  Seems that if DMX focused on making an album as much as he does acting a fool he would be better off or is he really out of his mind?
Will.I.Am was arrested in Berlin, Germany.   The Black Eyed Peas front man was held for questioning as a part of an investigation into a nightclub brawl that broke out during an after-concert party.  Born William Adams , was allegedly part of a melee at Berlin's downtown 40seconds Club when a fight broke out at approximately 1:30 in the morning. According to reports the group's bodyguard and the venue's doorman got into it about a crowd in the V.I.P. area of the club.  A champagne bottle was broken over the doorman's head and blood was everywhere.   The Black Eyed Peas were in Europe to play Montreux, Switzerland on Saturday.  The band and their entourage were crammed into the VIP area and the bodyguard kept waving in more people.  The Club manager Torsten Schermall said the fight broke out after his security guard told the bodyguard not to let any more people through.  "It was a witches' cauldron," 26-year-old actress Romina di Lella , who was in the VIP area, said.  "I haven't ever seen anything so brutal.  They were at each other for five minutes."  This has shot that soulful earthy image of Will.I.Am straight to hell.
According To My " Street Committee "... Mike Jones must have some serious cash these days.  Now I am not sure because I was not at the party personally, but I heard Mike celebrated at Club Blue in Houston after the Essence Festival.  It is rumored that Mike Jones started throwing Ice Age Chains into the crowd at the club.  According to my sources the rapper must have flung 15 chains into the audience.  The jury is still out on if the Ice was real or if he had some of Jacob "The Jeweler" good fakes.   Stacey Dash , you got it Damion Dash's cousin will be showing all that she has in the upcoming August issue of Playboy .  Wow!  I guess we can call this a comeback.  Houston was not pleased this past week with Babyface .  Dude was so late for his performance during the Essence Festival the magazine had to issue refunds.  I hear that the higher ups at Essence would walk through Hell in gasoline draws before Babyface is asked to do anything for them again.  Rumors have it that Fat Joe and 50 Cent are at it again.  Who cares?  One of them must have an album getting ready to drop.  That feud stuff to get publicity to sell records is so last year, they need to come up with something new.
Earlier this year Tyson Beckford made an appearance at a gay club in Washington, D.C. at first he denied it and later said it was a paid gig after pictures proved him wrong.  Now he recently joined the " Queer Eye for the Straight Guy " team often referred to as the Fab 5 to help turn a pizza delivery guy into a model. Sometime after the taping he was at a club trying to prove his manhood by doing a little dirty dancing with MTV host Vanessa Minnillo when Perez Hilton cut in on Tyson's grind at New York City nightclub Stereo.  Mike Satsky, the club owner, had to stop Tyson from throwing a punch.  According to Satsky Tyson was totally unreasonable and extremely rash.   Star is not only getting dissed by her former co-host of " The View ," but I hear she was recently dissed by the valet people during a party at Claudia Cohen's crib in the Hamptons.   Star and her husband Al waited close to an hour to get their Range Rover.
Rocky Twyman is making it happen for Oprah .  This man loves Oprah more than me and is working to get her a Nobel Peace Prize.  Although, only a previous recipient can nominate one for the high honor Twyman feels a little petition would not hurt.   Obnoxious has discovered recently Haifa , nicknamed The Madonna of the Arab World, recently gave her endorsement to Oprah Winfrey for Nobel Peace Prize Movement founded by Rockey Twyman.   Simp Ben Bachir , Middle East entertainment reporter secured Haifa's endorsement.

Jermaine Dupri is brilliant!  Recently Obnoxious reported that JD said he and Janet would be getting married on September 26.  Well, that is not actually a wedding date, but the release date of Janet's new album.  The title is 20 Years Old.  Now is it rumored that Janet and Mariah have a hot duet on Janet's new opus due to drop this fall.  This is very possible since JD produced Mariah's comeback.

Are You Ready For This!!!   Minnesota Timberwolves player Eddie Griffin has apologized for a March auto accident where he was literally caught with his pants down.  According to a lawsuit filed against him on Thursday, the NBA athlete was driving his SUV in Minneapolis while drunk and masturbating to a porn DVD when he crashed into a parked Chevy Suburban.   Griffin said he deeply regrets the incident and apologized to his family, teammates, and the community for any embarrassment his actions may have caused.  Meanwhile, police are investigating whether tow officers should have issued Griffin a DUI ticket and if they violated policy by driving him home to St. Paul after the accident.  The owner of the vehicle that Griffin allegedly damaged and the owner's brother are suing Griffin and the city, claiming Griffin tried to bribe them and that their civil rights were violated by the police handling of the case.  A video tape of the incident taken by the victim and given to several local media outlets shows Griffin admitting that he is drunk and does not have a driver's license.   Eddie Griffin also seen pleading with witnesses to not call the police, saying, "I can't go to jail," the video also showed Griffin offering to buy a car for the man whose SUV he crashed into.  Now I do not know what Eddie was on that night, but whatever it was he does not need to ever take it again.  Anytime you are so high that you masturbate and drive you are dangerous.
