 No
one does it better than Lady O. The Oprah Winfrey
Leadership Academy for Girls officially opened in
a small town south of Johannesburg with such stars as Sidney
Poitier, Tina Turner, and Mary
J. Blige among the great names in attendance. The
stars paid their own way to be along side their good friend
for what she described as the proudest day of her life. Located
in Henley-on-Klip, the $40 million facility houses 152 students
from economically challenged backgrounds and fulfills a promise
she made to former President Nelson Mandela six
years ago to help educate South Africa’s young girls. “I
wanted to give this opportunity to girls who had light so bright
that not even poverty could dim that light,” Winfrey said
at a news conference. “I know that this academy
will change the trajectory of these girl’s lives. They
will excel and pass their excellence on to their families,
their nation, and our world.”
Each invited guest, including Mariah Carey, Chris
Tucker, Chris Rock, director Spike
Lee, were asked to bring a personally-inscribed book
for the library. “The critics be damned,” said Oprah. Many
have suggested how she should have spent her money to build
a similar school here in America. Well, who in the hell
do they think they are to tell someone how to spend their own
personal money. In America we are obligated to pay taxes
to educate our children and in South Africa there is no such
luxury. Oprah is right in her assessment
of American children, as a former educator of 11th and 12 grade
students I witnessed the misguided priorities of students and
their parents on a daily basis. Teens in America are
obsessed with things and not aware of how blessed they actually
are in comparison to children in other parts of the world. “I
became frustrated with visiting inner-city schools that I just
stopped going. The sense that you need to learn just
isn’t there,” she said. “If you asked
the kids what they want or need, they will say an iPod or some
sneakers. In South Africa, they don’t ask for money
or toys. They ask for uniforms so they can go to school.” Hats
off to Oprah Winfrey for one of the greatest
gifts to humanity, when you give the gift of education you
will forever change the world |
Each week this beef is getting
more and more ridiculous. Rosie O’Donnell and Donald
Trump have reduced themselves to a beef in the media
similar to that of rappers that have alleged issues with each
other. In the beginning is seemed to have been a funny
media hype builder that got on your nervous very quick. Clearly Donald is
having some issue with his decision to give a whore a second
opportunity being called into question. Donald
Trump, who has made a name for himself and stand for
excellence in business has publicly contradicted himself with
this decision and to have it questioned by the overbearing
loud mouth Rosie got under his skin. All
of the hype to get viewers may have worked, but has diminished
the quality that once was synonymous with the name Trump. Now Trump has
become more of a tramp in his recent media tirade. Donald and Rosie can
overcome this issue and get off to a healthy start, but it
does not seem that “The View” likes
controversy much. Allegedly it may be some truth to the
allegations that Trump is making due to a
source that works with the show stating a huge blow-up in the
hair and make-up room when Rosie returned. Now
it is true that Rosie is loud and overbearing at times, but
that is just Rosie. However, she confronted Barbara
Walters when she returned from vacation about Trump’s accusation
that she had told him she was not happy with Rosie. “You
didn’t call me for 10 got-damn days, and you know you
didn’t tell me what you were going to say on television!” O’Donnell reportedly
told Walters. Rosie is
said to have been upset about the cameras outside of her home
and feeling that she has to protect her wife and kids. Obviously Rosie is
the man in of the house. Most likely this is nothing
more than a media stunt to get more ratings.

One minute Tyrese is
accused of whipping his girlfriend’s ass and the next
their attorney is saying it is all just a big misunderstanding. Yeah
right! The live in girlfriend must have had a reason
to call 911 on her baby daddy. Allegedly, Tyrese has
made the term of his favorite sexy under-shirt literal, the
singer/actor and now rapper is known for his wife-beater tank
tops has lived up to the name. The police are investigating
the reports of the buff dude punching his pregnant girlfriend
twice before taking off in his car. Sources say a woman
claiming to be his live-in girlfriend said she was struck after
the two began arguing around 5:30 a.m. at their Los Angeles
home. Seems he was just getting in or had just got a
phone call from another woman causing this fight to take place
in the wee hours of the morning. Paramedics were called
to the residence after Tyrese allegedly punched
the woman, who is three months pregnant, in the arm and thigh
then drove away from the scene, which saved him from being
arrested. Additionally, Tyrese was supposed
to call Sacramento radio station KSFM 102.5 the morning of
the incident to plug his upcoming movie “Transformers,” but
right before his scheduled interview, his reps called the station
and said he was missing and they could not reach him.
Four days later the cleaned up version of the situation come
out with a statement from Tyrese Gibson’s attorney. According
to reports the incident with his girlfriend was just a misunderstanding. The
lawyer who represents the girlfriend of Tyrese issued
a statement responding to what allegedly happened as follows: “Reports
that Tyrese punched my client--his girlfriend--in
the arm, thigh or anywhere else are false. It is true, Mr.
Gibson and his girlfriend had been arguing. She
became very emotional and distressed during the argument and
called 911 in an attempt to get a mediator. Mr.
Gibson, frustrated, left the home. My client, Mr.
Gibson’s girlfriend, who is 11 weeks pregnant,
then became more upset and began throwing up. When the
paramedics arrived, concerned about the baby, they took her
to the hospital. Fortunately, she was fine. Once
at the hospital, she was asked by a nurse whether she had been
assaulted. She said no. She was then asked what
her pain level was on a scale of zero to ten. She said
zero. She then discharged herself. Mr.
Gibson and his girlfriend are very much still in love,
together and excited about their expectant child. She
is quite saddened that this event was so distorted.”
Sounds like the perfect case of back peddling to get out of
a situation that could have become very detrimental for her
an especially Tyrese. The bottom line
is that no charges were filed and he was not arrested. His
driving off might have been the best thing after all. Sounds
like he got caught having an affair or hooking up with another
woman and caused his pregnant girlfriend to feel more like
a fool than she already does to be playing house with a man
and now having his baby. Ladies when are you going to
learn that men get a license to drive cars, going fishing,
and for their dog, but the will live with you, screw you and
not ever think twice to asking for your hand in marriage. Tyrese claims
that he got saved and is a member of Bishop Kenneth
Ulmer’s church, but some how he missed the sermon
on fornication and shacking.

The gorgeous Nia Long graces the
cover of Essence for the
month of February and in the cover story she sets the
record straight about the fight between her now ex-boyfriend
and her son’s father. Long talks
about her career and being back on television after
doing shows like Third Watch and Fresh
Prince of Bel-Air; She can now
be seen on Boston Legal with William
Shatner and Candice Bergen. “The
writing on Boston Legal is
so beautiful, so layered and full of life, and I’m
working with the crème de la crème—true
professionals who take their craft very seriously. So
it’s been challenging, but in such a great way. Of
course, there’s the constant struggle to find
the balance between work and motherhood.” Nia even
shares in the article that the most natural chemistry
was between her and Larenz Tate, but
that Will Smith set the standard for
leading men in her book. “He really knows
how to make a woman feel special,” Nia shared. The
actress is doing great and has two films coming out
this year; “Premonition” and “Are
We Done Yet?” She stated
that she is very happy.
Nia goes on to reveal that there
was actually a fight between the two men in her life
at the time. The situation happened at The Grove,
an upscale mall in L.A. where she and her then boyfriend
went to have dinner for the first time with her son. It
was a huge deal for Nia due to her
not allowing men around her son unless it is someone
very special. Her former fiancé and son’s
father was due to pick him up at the mall on the same
evening, however he arrived much sooner than she anticipated. Nia introduced
the two men and after shaking hands her son’s
father hit the boyfriend and a fight ensued. In
the article Nia said she moved away very quickly with
her son due to her attempt to protect him from witnessing
such behavior. The former fiancé is said
to have been 21-year-old first-round NFL draft pick
Reggie Bush. |

Drug
Dealers and Killers Strike Again…Mike
Tyson is going back to prison. Following
charges of drug possession and driving under the influence
of drugs in Arizona last week, Mike Tyson fate
lies in the hands of the Maricopa County prosecutor, who
says he wants prison time for the former heavyweight boxing
champ. “He has run out of second chances, at
least in my book,” attorney Andrew Thomas said in
a new conference. Tyson has two
felonies for drug possession and two misdemeanor counts
for driving under the influence of drugs were the reason
for his arrest in Scottsdale, where he was pulled over
after leaving a nightclub. Bags of cocaine were found
in his back pocket and another in a pack of cigarettes
in his car, according to police records. If convicted
of all four charges, he could be sentenced to between 2 ¼ and
7 ½ years. Tyson has a long
rap sheet and it is not looking good for him in this case. As
you may recall he was convicted of rape in 1992 and pleaded
no contest to misdemeanor assault charges in Maryland in
1998. Well, it does not look good for the former
champ and he might just have to do some time. Seems Mike has
a drug habit and the prosecutor is not willing to allow
him to go to rehab.

What is going on with Trevor
Smith? Better known as Busta Rhymes,
the rapper was arrested in New York City and charged with
misdemeanor assault for allegedly beating up his driver as
he requested back payment. The 34-year-old rapper was
out of the country touring in Africa and Portugal when police
announced their decision to file charges earlier this week. Rhymes surrendered
to police in Lower Manhattan Wednesday night and was released
on $3,500 bail the following morning. According to
reports, Busta allegedly struck 39-year-old
Eddie Hatchett multiple times, causing a laceration on his
face. The attack was said to have occurred the day
after Christmas outside of Busta’s office
on West Broadway in Manhattan, when Hatchett—who drove Busta’s Rolls
Royce, Bentley, and bulletproof GMC—requested 19 days
of back payment he was allegedly owed when Busta lived
up to his name and busted him up side his head. Trevor
has been on a kiss ass mission and is facing assault charges
for an August 2005 incident in which his bodyguards allegedly
beat a man for spitting on his car in New York. |
According to my “Street
Committee”…The Nation of Islam
announced Saturday that Minister Louis Farrakhan,
who recently gave up his leadership to an executive board
due to poor health, has recently undergone a 12-hour operation. No
further details were given as to the nature or location
of the surgery. According to the Nation, doctors
told Farrakhan’s family they were
pleased with the operation, but would monitor him closely
for the next 24 to 48 hours. As previously reported, Farrakhan wrote
in a September 11, 2006, letter to followers that he had
anemia and lost 20 pounds due to complications for an ulcer
in the anal area. Six years earlier, Farrakhan underwent
surgery for prostate cancer. |
Will Smith might
have his sights set on moving to South Africa and taking his
whole family with him. He actually found a house prior
to 9/11 but he felt a since of loyalty to stay in the states. The
actor says he loves South Africa. Mos Def might
be getting shown the door by his label and going independent. Seems
that the rapper has turned out to be a better actor and not
getting the promotion and energy needed to make an album successful
and he is loosing his deal with Geffen.

“Being
Bobby Brown” has been cancelled. Bobby “Has
Been” Brown series was not considered for
renewal after the higher ups at Bravo were unimpressed
with the new show’s angle. Additionally, they
did not feel it would be successful without Whitney Houston. It
is rumored that Bobby pitched the show with Karrien “Superhead” Steffans and
it was rejected. They even are said to have tried
to pair Bobby with Mike Tyson and
film them out on the town, but still no deal. Speaking
of boxing Obnoxious learned that
the rumor is true that Lil’ Wayne got
is jaw broken. According to sources Gillie
Da Kid punched Wayne in the face. Technically
his jaw was not broken, but cracked. Still sounds
very pain full. The word is that Lil’ Wayne has
a big mouth and talks a lot of trash that he cannot back
up. |
Tomi Rae Hynie needs
to go back to rehab. James Brown’s companion
is out of control with all her wild antics and fake crying
on television. Seems the trustees and attorneys have
his stuff on lock and she will not get anything, but a hard
time for acting a fool. It was hard to watch the funeral
that was more like a modern day minstrel show. Never
before have you seen such clowning on live television to the
point of embarrassment. Rev. Al Sharpton tried
his best to keep order, but the people and performers were
out of control. MC Hammer even tried
to make a comeback with a five minute dance, but showed his
age when the old man had to hold on to the podium to work his
moves. The aged rapper/preacher quickly set down after
his tribute to the Godfather of Soul.

“Stomp The
Yard” was shot by Rainforest Films on
location in Atlanta, Georgia on the campuses of Morris Brown
and Morehouse Colleges, and Clark Atlanta University. However,
the portrayal of real fraternities and sororities at one
time generated some controversy. Some felt the film
would share to many of the secret pledging practices of these
organizations. The film does not use any actual fraternities,
but made up Greek Letter Organizations. Not only has
the movie been the subject of controversy, but the actors
as well. For starters Columbus Short,
who is the actual star of the film, is the ex-choreographer
for Britney Spears. Seems that the
married Mr. Short, who had a baby on the
way got a little to close to Britney and actually had and
affair that caused him to lose his family and his job due
to Britney’s mom firing him. Darrine
Henson of Showtime’s “Soulfood” is
also in the movie, the married man showed up to the L.A.
premier with the R&B singer Angie Stone and
the two of them acted as if they were a couple and kissed
in the mouth on the red carpet. The beautiful Megan
Good does a great job as the love interest of the
star and her character overcomes a number of personal issue
on her quest for true love in the film, but on the weekend
of the movie premiere she faced some serious obstacles in
real life when she was robbed while signing autographs to
a crowd of fans. The movie is worth seeing during the
long weekend; although it is not a serious drama or has a
lot of glamour like “Dreamgirls” you
will be reminded or learn a little bit about a HBCU (Historical
Black College or University) experience. |
