The reports came in as a major shock that Dr. Donda West, the mother of rap star Kanye West, died of a heart attack after undergoing two cosmetic surgeries:  Liposuction on her stomach and a breast reduction.  However, an official autopsy had not been performed when I got the news.  My phone started ringing while I was in Memphis at the 100th Holy Convocation of the Church of God In Christ and it was all to much of a reminder of the previous year while at the same convention I was informed about Gerald Lavert dying of a heart attack as well.  However, this death seemed to be personal for me in ways that no other celebrity death has been.   In this business meeting people that are famous comes a dime a dozen some you like and some you don’t.  Kanye West is one of those artist that I like, his work is amazing and to know his story you cannot help, but feel his pain.  Because I am to journalism what Kanye is to rap I know how he feels to be the best and have to make people respect it and bow down to your phenomenal artistry.  Obnoxious has carved a new niche in Urban Social Commentary.  Like West I am also very close to my mother and could not comprehend loosing her to something like complications due to plastic surgery.  Dr. West was enjoying the finer things in life and reaping the benefits of her son’s success, accomplishments that she made come to fruition.  After all it was not serious surgery and both of them are still so young and seemed to have many years together ahead of them.  You all know by now that Dr. West died in the emergency room at Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Cent in Marina Del Rey, California.

Several weeks earlier a plastic surgeon had refused to perform procedures on Dr. West due to a pre-existing health condition that could have led to a heart attack.  Dr. Jan Adams said they her death came after a tummy tuck and breast reduction, which he performed, was unforeseen and could have been caused by a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or massive vomiting.  He added that Dr. West consulted with him over a period of four months.  He said that she changed her mind numerous times, sometimes ready to move forward with the surgery and other calling it off.  However, it was discovered that thyroid condition may have been what kept Dr. Andre Aboolian from performing the procedure.

The tummy tuck and breast reduction performed on Kanye West’s mother by Dr. Jan Adams took eight hours, which is twice as long as such a procedure warrants.   Dr. West’s procedure lasted from Friday morning until Friday evening, and that afterward, Dr. West was sent home to convalesce instead of a recover center, which would have been appropriate.  Several doctors at Centinela Hospital, where West was rushed to the emergency room on that fatal Saturday said they believe the excessive amount of time it took to perform the procedure suggests either something went wrong during the operation or the doctor was just too inexperienced.  It has also been discovered that that Dr. Adams is not Board Certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Adams problems do not stop there but he has two alleged DUI arrests in Los Angeles, including March 31, 2006, with Dr. Adams arrested for blowing a .10 blood alcohol level during two breath analyzer tests and putting him over the legal limit.  The case went to trail, and according to court documents, Adams was found not guilty of diving under the influence and guilty of driving with a blood alcohol treatment and counseling program and attend 60 AA meetings and five years probation.  Dr. Adams first became well known as on of the co-hosts on NBC’s short-lived “The Other Half,” which was promoted as a male version of ABC’s “The View” with co-hosts Danny Bonaduce, Mario Lopez, and Dick Clark.  He also hosted the Discovery Health Channel series “Plastic Surgery: Before and After” and appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to plug the program.  Seems that the good doctor might have a bit of a drinking problem, but jury is still out on if he was at fault for the death of Dr. Donda West, the mother of Kanye West

Karrine “Superhead” Steffans has found true love.  In spite of her on again off again relationship with Lil’ Wayne, Karrine has managed to find a man that she loves in her own complex way that also loves her and would like her hand in marriage.  Darius McCrary has asked Karrine to be his lawfully wed wife.  Recently I was able to sit down with her about her second book when she revealed to me that Darius and her romance began when she was sick with Bronchitis and he came over and took care of her and her son for close to three months.  It is no secret that Karrine has a past, she has written two books about her various sexual encounter with entertainers and athletes might be able to live happily ever after with Darius.  She confirmed the rumors that actor Darius McCrary, who played Eddie Winslow in the series “Family Matters,” told his side of the story to Sister To Sister Magazine.  “If you are gonna turn a ho into a housewife, that’s the one to get.”  McCrary claims to have enjoyed a three-month long slumber party with Steffans that started out with him nursing her back to good health and lasted after she was up and on her feet.  In spite of there both being in relationships with other people at the time they fell in-love, it might be fair to say they have a love hate relationship.  Darius has no problem referring to the woman that might soon be his wife as a ho and Karrine bluntly calls him a B-list actor at best.  She even went on to tell me that she cannot wait until he gets a real job.  Look audio clips of the interview really soon.

According to reports Oprah Winfrey took a secret trip back to South Africa over a weekend recently to check on the investigation of abuse allegations at her Leadership Academy for Girls.  Winfrey reportedly met for the first time with the 12-year-old student who first complained of misconduct by a dorm matron.  Her mother and father were also present.

“The meeting went well.  It took about two hours, and I appreciate that Oprah took time to listen,” the girl’s father told reporters.  “Oprah looked beautiful and was so easy to talk to.  It went very smoothly.”  The girl left Oprah’s school after her initial attempts to alert school staff of the alleged abuse fell on deaf ears.  According to reports, the family had not been invited to an emergency meeting in October, at which time Winfrey apologized.  “I m very happy and pleased that Oprah heard our side of the story,” the father said of their recent meeting.  “We have closure.”

Winfrey reportedly had several meeting in addition to her sit down with the girl and her parents.  “I think they are planning new rules and staff of the school,” said the girl’s father, expressing happiness that his daughter will return to complete eighth grade there.  “I am so excited because we were invited to the end-of-year party,” the father said.  “The other pupils and families knew about the party, but we were never told.  So it was a big surprise for us when Oprah asked us to join the party.”  The father also shared that his daughter will receive counseling and support, as did other students who were abused.  The therapy, he said, will be organized by the school.  He added, “I am happy because at last we had a chance to speak.  Oprah resolved everything.”  The former dorm matron Tiny Virginia Makopo, 27, was suspended over that girl’s allegations involving indecent assault and soliciting under-age girls to commit indecent acts.  She faces 13 criminal charges.

Divas Raising HellKeyshia Cole is obviously comes from a more than challenged background according to her BET reality series “Keyshia Cole:  That is the Way It Is.”  As much as I detest reality TV I constantly find myself watching her show while holding the cover up to my face and peaking out a the television shock as if what I just witnessed was not real.  Either it is her drug addict mother cussing without her false teeth in or her low life sister having another baby as if it is a badge of honor to not know who the father may be—to Keyshia and her pseudo diva behavior is nothing more then a chick from the ghetto that got lucky.  According to the afore mentioned I was not surprised that lean that the R&B singer, Keyshia Cole bailed out of a performance recently in Columbus, Georgia.  The concert was a double dose of ghetto, which also featured R. Kelly and Ne-Yo, who was the shows only saving grace.  The concert was booked six months in advance, but someone still had a problem.  Apparently Keyshia had a complete and total breakdown when she learned that she would be opening the sow for Ne-Yo and R. Kelly.  An insider told me that she when into her usual cursing routine and was ready to fight.  A number of concert attendees wanted to she her perform, but it seems that the concert organizers and enough of her ghetto antics backstage.  Clearly she had performed enough and left.  The concert went on without a hitch; Ne-Yo let it be known that one monkey does not stop the show and he was a great showman and extended his performance.  R. Kelly even extended his long storytelling songs as well to make up for Keyshia non-performance

Everyone thought that my comments about Halle Berry and her bastard baby were far too harsh, but just as I thought it would not be long before it would be trouble in paradise.  It seems that Halle and Gabriel Autry, Halle’s sperm donor, are having major fights and might not be a couple by the time the child is born.  The Oscar winner expected to raise their child in Los Angeles, but her model boyfriend is completely against it.     It seems that Gabriel wants to stay in New York to further his career.  The word is that Halle has been really hurt by this and always assumed Gabriel would move to LA so they could play house and raise their bastard child together like a happy family.  Gabriel staying in New York will mean long separations and no doubt their relationship will not last.  Halle is said to have offered him everything she could to get him to change his mind, but he wants to be his own man and not willing to give up his career for their relationship or their child.  Halle is strong willed and is determined to make this relationship work even if it means that she might have to do some major compromising.

The saying when it rains, it pours is especially true for African American Men.  A Los Angeles judge has ordered Wesley Snipes to make good on a $1.7 million default judgment to his former talent agency, which assisted him in earning lead roles in four motion pictures.  According to documents made public, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Workman signed off on the award after Snipes failed to respond to a summons in the breach-of-oral-contract lawsuit, which was failed against him in July 2006 by United Talent Agency.  The complaint alleged that Snipes, 45, verbally agreed in November 2002 to give UTA 10 percent of his salary for any roles the company secured for him.  UTA says it negotiated lead parts for Snipes in 2004’s “Blade: Trinity,” for which he was paid $13 million; the little-seen 2005 crime drama “Chaos”; and the direct-to-video films, “The Shooter” and “Middle Man.”

The agency filed a lawsuit claming Snipes reneged on the deal and failed to pay commissions before he fired UTA in February 2006.  After UTA’ attorneys said they where unable to serve the actor notice of the complaint in person, Superior Court Commissioner Barry D. Kohn permitted them to publish a summons informing Snipes of the lawsuit in two newspapers, The Daily Journal of Los Angeles, where Snipes conducts business and The Record in Fort Lee, New Jersey, where Snipes owns a residence.  Wesley does not seemed to be moved by this notice because neither he nor his lawyer responded to the complaint by the deadline, which prompted Judge Workman to give the actor’s camp one last chance to review the case and default request by setting a hearing.  However, the judge reversed his own decision and signed a document entering the $1.7 million judgment into record.

Additionally, Wesley Snipes’ tax evasion trial began this October in Ocala, Florida.  The actor is charged with eight counts of cheating the Internal Revenue Service out of $12 million by filing fraudulent returns.  If convicted, Snipes could face up to 16 years in prison.  As previously reported in the column, Wesley says he is innocent and being targeted because of his race.  His attorneys have also asked a federal judge to dismiss the charges on racial ground with the claim prosecutors failed to seek similar charges against his two co-defendants.  His lawyers where not available to make a comment by my deadline, Wesley has a bad case of “Jungle Fever” and they may not be able to get him out of this one.

Drug Dealers and Killers…A prosecution document filed in T.I.’s federal weapons case says the rapper previously violated the law by possessing firearms and a silencer while a convicted felon.  T.I, born Clifford Harris, is currently charged with possession of unregistered machine guns and silencers and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.  He was release on bond, but is under house arrest.  In a notice filed in U.S. District Court in Atlanta, the U.S. Attorney’s office said it plans to show three previous occasions when T.I. unlawfully possessed guns, ammunition and silencer, all after having been convicted of a felony offense.  The first was December 22, 2001, in Atlanta.  T.I. alleged to have used the fake name Douglas Morgan and was carrying a concealed 9 mm pistol.  The arrest did not result in a criminal conviction.  The second offense was a November 1, 2002 arrest in Henry County for carrying a 10 mm pistol, which did result in a conviction.  The third arrest was the result of a search warrant executed at his home in Fulton County on December 18, 2004.  Officers said they found a firearm with an attached silencer, large amounts of ammunition and photos of T.I. posing with guns.  The incident did not result in a criminal conviction.  T.I. was 17-years-old when he began is criminal behavior and was arrested for selling crack tin northwest Atlanta.  He was sentenced to seven years’ probation, which he violated, and was sent to jail.  It looks like Clifford is going to be going away for a little while for his thug-like behavior.   T.I. is an “American Gangster” for real.

Ricky Williams may be able to take the field again for the Miami Dolphins following the end of his NFL suspension, but it is still uncertain if the team, currently 0-9, wants him back on the squad.  By my deadline the organization had not issues a comment on Williams’ new status.  As you may recall Williams was the league’s rushing champion in 2002 and suspended last year after violating the league’s drug policy for the fourth time and testing positive again for marijuana in April, which delayed his return through the first half of this season.  He played in only 12 NFL games since the start of the 2004 season.  Ricky suited up for the Canadian Football League last season and applied for the NFL reinstatement on October 1.  “Ricky worked extremely hard to meet the requirements for reinstatement,” his attorney, David Cornwell said.  Seems Ricky worked really hard at not getting high.  “He is grateful for commissioner Goodell’s decision.  Ricky is committed to making the most to the opportunity to rejoining the NFL.”  It is no surprise that the commissioner reinstated him, due to the league having a reputation of harboring fugitives in the first place.  With the Dolphins rookie running back Ronnie Brown currently on the injured reserve and leaving the team depleted in that position it is the perfect time for Ricky to get back on the field in a Dolphins uniform.  But the organization might decide to keep the pot smoker inactive the rest of the season and then try part ways with the troublemaker and trade him.

Continuing in NFL badboy news, suspended Tennessee Titans corner back Adam “Pacman” Jones was prepared to accept a plea deal to keep him out of jail in connection with a triple shooting at a Las Vegas strip club.  Under the written plea agreement that I obtained, Jones intends to plead no contest to one charge of conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct, a gross misdemeanor, in return for a promise to suspend a sentence of one year in county jail.  Jones was identified as the person who sparked a February 19 melee inside the Minxx Gentlemen’s Club minutes before three people were shot outside.  Jones’ Atlanta-based attorney Manny Arora said the defense team felt Pacman would not have won a trial on two felony counts of coercion for inciting a fight inside the club.  However, a trial would not have happened for six months or even a year.  “And he may have lost another year of eligibility by going forward.  In the real world, sometimes you have to make these difficult decisions for what’s best for your career, and we didn’t want this dragging on any further,” Arora said.  Meanwhile, the 24-year-old athlete will still be suspended from the NFL for a series of off-the-field incidents, including the strip club incident.  Commissioner Roger Goodell benched Jones for the season in April for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.  Goodell and Jones men November 2 to discuss the suspension and Goodell changed his mind.  And there you have it, another fugitive back in the league.

New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury holds his son Stephon Jr. as he leaves Coney Island Gospel Assembly after attending the funeral for his father Don Marbury Sr. in New York, Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007. The elder Marbury suffered a heart attack during the Knicks game against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, Dec. 2, while watching his son play in the game.

The pockets for the New York Kicks badboy, point guard Stephon Marbury were tapped for more than $180,000 as a punishment for he organization for purposely missing a game against the Phoenix SunsMarbury played poorly down the stretch in the New York’s 75-72 loss to Miami recently, and the word is that the Knicks are trying to reduce Marbury’s role or send him with his bags packing in a trade.  The story crated tension between Marbury and Thomas—some of my friends in Westchester County who have the same agent say Isaiah and Stephon had a fight on the plane to Phoenix, which the Knicks denied.  “There is no truth to that whatsoever,” said Knicks spokesman Jonathan Supranowitz, who was on the flight.  Some of Marbury’s teammates said his departure took them by surprise, but they expressed no hard feelings.  “You always support your teammates,” forward Jared Jeffries said.  “A lot of people on the outside don’t understand what guys go through with their family, their friends, with this team, with anything.  Whenever somebody goes through a tough time your support your teammate.”  Marbury, a star player, who averages 15.2 points and 6.8 assists per game, butted heads with Isaiah Thomas early last season after the coach benched him in the second halves of two games.  In addition Stephon behaved erratically during a televised interview, then testified in a sexual harassment trial against Thomas and Madison Square Garden that he had a sexual encounter in this truck with a team intern, smiling and singing on his way out of the courthouse. This is going to be a tough one to solve due to Stephon’s contract with the Knicks not up until the end of next season at $42 million.  With that said the two of them might have to tough it out.

According to myStreet Committee”…Well, you know it has been a great deal of talk that Keyshia Cole was talking about her relationship with Young Jeezy in her recent article in Essence Magazine when she said:  “I just couldn’t do it.  It’s weird.  After this guy proposed to me, I was like, dang, this is everything a woman lives for:  to be married, with a ring, to be able to represent something.  But for me, it was the opposite.  I was scared.  When you get married, you become one; you don’t live just for yourself anymore.  I’m just not ready for that.  I’m not done with my goals in life.  What’s the word when you just kind of fall back and let your man do the man thing?  Submit?  I’m all jacked up on the word.  I just couldn’t submit.  But I loved him.  That’s the crazy thing about it.  It’s been hard because I really missed that child.”

Jeezy has a very different perspective on the entire situation than Keyshia.  He does not deny that he and the R&B singer was seeing each other, but he does not seem to recall asking Keyshia to marry him.  In fact he says that is was cool with him for her to do what she has to do to promote her album.  “Aww man, ya know, I guess it’s publicity season everybody trying to sell records, Can’t knock her for that, but I ain’t really tripping because that don’t pertain to me.  She can’t obviously be talking about me.  It’s publicity season, everybody’s doing what they do, so I guess that’s what that is.

In more marriage news…It has been said that Queen Latifah and her longtime girlfriend Jeanette are OFFICIALLY ENGAGED!!! The two women have been in a relationship for more than 4 years - and they've finally decided to make it official.

And there's more.
Obnoxious has confirmation for sources close to Latifah that the two are planning on PUBLICLY coming out to the world about their engagement. Word is that once Queen Latifah's finished promoting her current movie, “The Perfect Holiday” an announcement will be made.

Obnoxious can't reveal our source to this story, but we can tell you that we're 100% sure on this one. And we can also tell you that ABSOLUTELY NO ONE in the media (no magazines, no bloggers, no TV stations, no radio personalities - NO ONE) else has the nerve to ask people close to the Queen if it is true or not, at a basketball game while on the elevator with Gabrielle Union, yours truly asked her about it and if she knew anything from there working together on the movie.  Gabby did not confirm or deny the story, but she did smile and like it was some truth to the story.  It remains too been seen if Queen Latifah will become a black Rosie O’Donnell or Ellen.   You have officially been choked by the bowtie!
